 Double Major Application Guidelines, 2025-2

Under the University Constitution and Regulations in Chapter 4, Section 3, Article 35 & Academic Operations Regulation Chapter 6, Section 2, Article 1 on Double Major

1. Eligibility

A. Applicants whose 1st major have already been designated are eligible to apply for double major

B. Applicants should have registered for more than 3 semesters. (Transfer students can apply after completing a minimum of one semester at Korea University.)

C. KU students who are currently registered for 2025-1 semester.

1) Semester Period: Spring(3.1.~7.31.), Fall(9.1.~ following year 1.31.)

2) Students are eligible to take leave of absence at next semester

3) Students on leave of absence are not eligible to apply. (Including students who leave during the semester they applied for the Double Major)

4) Students who are on leave of absence at the time of (or during) the application period semester will be disqualified even after being announced as successful applicants. Students currently attending or planning any kind of international program (SEP/VSP, KU-GLP, internship etc) may not apply for double major.

D. Students who already attended their 2nd major(double major/interdisciplinary major/ student-designed major) or engineering authentication certificate program are NOT eligible to apply unless students withdraw from the program before May 9 (Fri), 2025.

* Re-application to the double major(including interdisciplinary major, student-designed major) can only be accepted once. If student does not get accepted, they are required to complete the intensive major.

2. How to Apply

A. Online application at KU Portal → Registration & Graduation → Application for Secondary Majors

1) Select College and department

2) Please make sure to ‘save’ your application and then click ‘complete the application’

(the application is completed only after clicking ‘complete the application’. It will not be submitted if students do not click ‘complete the application’)

B. For departments submitting Statement of Purpose and Goals (1,000 letters in Korean per each parts)

C. School and Art Design students must mention the major area they are interested (either Industrial Information Design or Fine Art) when writing the Statement of Purpose and Goals

3. Selection Criteria

A. May include GPA, Interview and Statement fo Purpose and Goals depending on the department

B. Overall GPA (including previous semester and F)

4. Application Period

A. Application Period: 2025 May 14th(Wed) 10:00 ~ May 16th(Fri) 17:00

B. Please be advised that applicants should complete online application 1~2 hours before the deadline.

Any late application due to technical problem of individual computer is NOT accepted.

5. Announcement: July 30, 2025 (Mon) after 17:00 (To Be Confirmed)

6. Notice

A. The mandatory regulation of completing a second major is applied to students entering from 2004 onwards. Student subject to this regulation must complete one of the followings; 1) intensive major course of first major 2)double major 3) interdisciplinary major 4)student-designed major. (Applicant who is transferred with a bachelor’s degree can choose not to complete a second major.

B. Intensive major course of 1st major assumes a similar form to the existing single major system.

C. Student(s) accepted to Second Major can check their academic status at the following semester.

D. Law School, College of Information and Communications, School of Medicine,

College of Nursing, Dept. of Cyber Defense, College of Pharmacy and industry–academia partnership department(s)(계약학과) are excluded from this program.

Departments at College of Education are limited only to those who designated their first major within

the College of Education

E. Department(s) /School(s) that student cannot apply due to abolishment of majors(Dept.);

- College of Health Science: freshmen admitted in 2006 ~ 2013 are NOT eligible to apply double major within the college.

- Students from other colleges/schools are limited to apply for

1)Biomedical Engineering

2)Biosystems and Biomedical Science 3)Health and Environmental Science

4) Health and Policy Management within the College of Health Sciences.

F. Some departments may require Statement of Purpose and Goals, please refer to the attached file for further details. (1,000 letters in Korean per each parts)

G. it is strongly recommended to check the attached file before applying second major
